very hard to earn your business. Unfortunately there are also some
unethical, unskilled, and illegal contractors as well.
Questions to ask your handyman or home improvement contractor:
-How long has the handyman or remodeling contractor been in business? Due to the high turnover rate for contractors, it is important to work with a contractor that has been in business at least a few years.
-Does the home improvement contractor have the necessary insurance? Is it adequate?
It is extremely important that your contractor has all the necessary insurance to protect you and your home.(Your homeowners policy may NOT cover work by third parties.)
-Are the employees legal U.S. Citizens and able to effectively communicate?
In case of the “unthinkable” theft, accident, or damage the company employees should be documented citizens for reasons of emergency, communication and law enforcement. Speaking English effectively on a job site is a must for reasons of safety and conflict resolution.
-Can your home repair or remodeling contractor provide you a list of local customer references?
Call the references to evaluate how the contractor handled other jobs.
-Has the contractor put everything in writing? A professional handyman or renovation contractor will have detailed written proposals and specifications.
-Are the employees experienced & skilled? Ask if the contractor has
experienced craftsmen on the job and any training or job qualifications they may have.
-Does the home renovation contractor have a safety program in place? Working with heavy equipment, scaffolding, power tools, harnesses,
ladders, tools, and other equipment can be dangerous. Ask about safety issues.
-Does the home repair or home remodeling contractor offer Maintenance Programs? The severe climate and conditions in the North Georgia area can play havoc with the interior and exterior of your home or business. Maintenance Programs are a hassle free way to protect your valuable investment.
